A doula is a trained professional who provides care to a mother and her family in the form of emotional support, physical support, information, and advocacy during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period to help them achieve the healthiest and most satisfying experience possible. 

 

Potential ways I may assist you, your baby, your spouse or partner, and other children or family include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Pregnancy (Antepartum): 

– Birth education and preparation

– Breastfeeding education and preparation

– Breast pump support, sterilization, and assembly

– Newborn care education and preparation

– Postpartum care education

– Creating a postpartum support plan

– Shopping for baby: registry tips, tricks, and information

– Emotional and physical support as you prepare for labor

 

Birth: 

– Providing emotional and physical support, advocacy, and information while you labor and deliver your baby

– Remaining with family in the immediate hours post-delivery while family is getting settled (if desired)

– Checking on family in the initial 48-hours (if desired)

 

Postpartum (0 to 3 Months):

– Supporting the emotional and physical recovery of the mother after birth

– Supporting the family as they transition to new roles and routines (partners, siblings, pets, etc.)

– Providing hands-on newborn care education and assistance

– Providing feeding assistance (breast, pump, and/or bottle)

– Planning an outing to practice your new skills with confidence (going to the park, grocery store, or wherever you like to practice feeding, diapering, soothing, etc. on-the-go)

– Demonstrating and providing education regarding newborn soothing techniques, including swaddling and baby wearing

– Light housekeeping and assistance with meal planning, prep, or grocery shopping

– Planning and supporting you during important transitioning (e.g. returning to work)

– Overnight stays available to help you get the rest you need! 

 

First Year (3 Months to 1 Year Postpartum):

– Ongoing assistance and education as needed with physical and emotional adjustments to life with a baby (i.e., troubleshooting)

– Planning and supporting you during important transitions (e.g., return to work) and important “firsts” (e.g., first night alone with the baby, first overnight away, holidays and special occasions)

– Planning and supporting you with sleep regressions, sleep learning, and other sleep challenges your family may encounter (overnights available)

– Ongoing breastfeeding support, as well as planning and support for introducing solid foods, and any feeding challenges that your family may encounter.
